From a small yet ambitious beginning. Established in Sheffield in 1923, the Heb Group (formerly known as HE Barnes), has come a long way since Horace Barnes started the business as a young electrician.
Today, we continue the ethos established by Horace – always seeking opportunities, adapting to change, growing and evolving with integrity.

1923
Horace Edward Barnes established the business.
1960
Electrical installation and maintenance of the largest Rolling Mills in Europe at Ponderosa.
2012
The Barnes family remained within the business until 2012 when international investor, and our Chairman Neil Bennett purchased the majority shareholding of HE Barnes.
2012
Nigel Pollard joined with target of financial growth and integration of a full turnkey M&E services offering.
2013
Paul Dobson appointed to assist in growth of Mechanical & Electrical division.
2016
Nigel Pollard becomes group Managing Director with the remit to grow and geographically expand the business.
2019
HE Barnes acquires Solutions 4 Cleaning.
2022
Nick Barker appointed as FM Director to strategically develop and grow a full turnkey hard & soft FM offering.
2023
HE Barnes celebrates its Centenary Year!
2024
Established new business units of Leeds and Liverpool in line with a major rebrand of the Heb Group.
Completing the full-service offer
In 2019, the group acquired premier commercial cleaning specialists Solutions4Cleaning – complementing our core service offer, and enabling us to provide complete end-to-end solutions for buildings and facilities of any size.
