As part of our continued growth, we are looking to appoint a proactive and experienced Group Health, Safety & Environmental Manager to support the delivery of our group wide HS&E strategy and help maintain the highest possible standards across all divisions.
Role Overview
The Group Health, Safety & Environmental Manager will support the development and delivery of Heb Group’s health, safety, environmental, and compliance strategy across all divisions and operational regions.
The role is responsible for promoting a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and company procedures, and supporting operational teams to maintain safe, compliant, and efficient working environments across construction sites, facilities management operations, and business premises.
Working closely with the Group Health, Safety & Environmental Director, senior leadership teams, employees, and subcontractors, the role will drive continuous improvement initiatives, support environmental objectives, and ensure best practice is consistently implemented throughout the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote a positive and proactive health, safety, and environmental culture across Heb Group.
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the company’s Health, Safety & Environmental strategy, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure the business, employees, and subcontractors remain compliant with all relevant Health, Safety & Environmental legislation and company standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and compliance reviews across operational sites and live construction projects.
- Monitor site activities and working practices to ensure adherence to company procedures, risk controls, and safe systems of work.
- Assist in the review and development of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), identifying opportunities to reduce operational risk.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and environmental events, ensuring findings and corrective actions are properly documented and implemented.
- Maintain accurate HS&E records, reports, audit findings, and performance statistics for internal and external reporting purposes.
- Deliver toolbox talks, training sessions, and awareness campaigns to employees and subcontractors.
- Provide guidance in all areas of Health, Safety & Environment.
- Produce HS&E communications, bulletins, alerts, and reports to promote safe and sustainable working practices across the business.
- Support subcontractor and supply chain compliance monitoring, including audits and performance reviews.
- Assist with external audits, certifications, and company accreditations including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, CHAS, SafeContractor, Gas Safe and Constructionline.
- Work collaboratively with managers and project teams to ensure HS&E considerations are embedded into project planning and delivery.
- Carry out any other duties reasonably required within the scope of the role.
- Carry out nationwide site inspections.
Personal Specification
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- NEBOSH Occupational Health & Safety Diploma or equivalent.
- Professional membership of IOSH.
- Strong understanding of UK Health, Safety & Environmental legislation.
- Experience within construction, engineering, facilities management, or related operational environments.
- Experience conducting site inspections, audits, creating RAMS, and accident & incident investigations.
- Working in-depth knowledge of ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 management systems.
- Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to influence and engage employees, subcontractors, and operational teams at all levels.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workload, and meet deadlines.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Chartered IOSH Membership (CMIOSH) or working towards Chartered status.
- City & Guilds Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Practice (or equivalent).
- Knowledge of ISO 50001 (Energy) management systems.
- Experience across Mechanical & Electrical, Facilities Management, and Cleaning & Hygiene sectors.
- Experience delivering internal training and behavioural safety initiatives.
