Heb Mechanical & Electrical is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Estimator to join our growing Pre-Construction team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the preparation, coordination and submission of technically robust, commercially competitive electrical tenders across a diverse range of sectors including healthcare, education, commercial, industrial, residential and public sector projects.

As part of our continued growth, we are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Electrical Estimator to strengthen our Pre-Construction team and help secure the next generation of exciting projects.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Estimating Manager / Group Pre-Construction Director, the Senior Electrical Estimator will take responsibility for producing accurate, competitive and commercially robust electrical estimates from first principles.

Working closely with operational teams, consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors, the successful candidate will coordinate all aspects of the estimating process, identifying risks, value engineering opportunities and innovative solutions that maximise project success.

The role also involves mentoring junior estimators, supporting continuous improvement within the estimating function and ensuring every tender submission reflects Heb Group's high technical, commercial and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and competitive electrical estimates from first principles across a range of sectors.
  • Review drawings, specifications, employer's requirements and tender documentation to fully understand project scope.
  • Produce detailed cost plans, pricing schedules and tender submissions in accordance with company procedures.
  • Evaluate commercial and technical risks throughout the tender process.
  • Identify and develop value engineering opportunities that improve commercial outcomes whilst maintaining compliance.
  • Obtain, analyse and negotiate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Attend tender interviews, client meetings, site surveys and adjudication meetings where required.
  • Support the successful handover of secured projects to operational delivery teams.
  • Maintain estimating databases, supplier pricing information and historical cost records.
  • Mentor and support Estimators and Trainee Estimators within the business.
  • Work collaboratively with Design, Commercial, Procurement and Operations teams throughout the pre-construction process.
  • Keep up to date with Building Regulations, British Standards, electrical technologies and market trends.
  • Drive continuous improvement within the estimating function through innovation and lessons learned.
  • Ensure compliance with Heb Group's Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety Management Systems, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Represent Heb Group professionally at all times.
  • Undertake any other duties reasonably required within the scope of the role.

Personal Specification

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience estimating electrical building services projects.
  • Strong understanding of electrical building services systems and current industry standards.
  • Excellent knowledge of construction tendering processes, procurement routes and commercial principles.
  • Experience pricing projects across commercial, healthcare, education, industrial, residential and public sector developments.
  • Strong understanding of Building Regulations, British Standards and relevant electrical legislation.
  • Experience using estimating software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent commercial, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple tenders whilst consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently whilst supporting wider team objectives.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
  • Professional membership of IET, CIBSE or equivalent.
  • Experience using BIM and digital design platforms during pre-construction.
  • Knowledge of renewable technologies, decarbonisation projects and sustainable building design.
  • Previous experience mentoring junior estimators.
  • SMSTS, IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • Knowledge of NEC and JCT forms of contract.
