Heb Group Sponsors Kier’s Moving Through May 2025 Charity Campaign

By Paul Dobson, Group Operations Director

Supporting causes that genuinely make a difference is something we take seriously, not just as a business but as individuals. That’s why I’m pleased to share that Heb Group is proud to be a Regional Headline Sponsor for Kier’s “Moving Through May 2025” campaign, a national charity initiative that brings together people, companies, and communities to raise funds and improve wellbeing. It’s a campaign that reflects the values we live by every day: connection, community, and taking action to support those who need it most.

Now in its latest and most ambitious year, “Moving Through May” is Kier Group’s month-long charity challenge designed to get people moving (literally) for good causes. The campaign encourages participants to take part in physical activities like walking, cycling, swimming, running or even paddleboarding, with every kilometre logged and every pound raised contributing to a shared goal. This year, Kier aims to raise £100,000 across five regions in the UK, with each region supporting up to four local charities chosen for their impact in the community. It’s a smart, flexible, and inclusive way to blend fitness, fun, and fundraising.

We’re incredibly proud to support the Yorkshire region’s fundraising efforts as part of this wider national campaign. Many of our colleagues, clients, and partners are based in this region, so it feels particularly meaningful to be part of something that’s making a local difference. Being involved in initiatives like this allows us to actively live our values and demonstrate our commitment to social responsibility, not just through words, but through action.

We often talk about the importance of social value in construction and engineering, but this campaign puts that idea into action in a very human way. It’s designed to be as open and accessible as possible, welcoming everyone regardless of ability, experience, or fitness level. Whether someone is clocking up solo miles on a treadmill, walking with colleagues during lunch, or cycling between sites, every effort counts. Leaderboards will track regional and individual contributions throughout May, creating a friendly sense of competition and momentum that keeps people engaged and motivated.

Heb Group won’t just be sponsoring this from the sidelines, we’ll be participating on the ground. On Tuesday 14th May, Kier is hosting a regional Baton Challenge, where participants will pass a symbolic baton between offices, depots, and sites using non-motorised travel. Our team will be joining in, and we’re currently looking for enthusiastic walkers and cyclists from across the business to represent Heb. It’s a fantastic chance to step away from day-to-day responsibilities, build relationships with others in our network, and take part in something with real meaning.

One of the aspects I personally appreciate about this campaign is the focus on employee wellbeing. In our industry, we often work at pace, with tight deadlines and demanding projects. “Moving Through May” offers a welcome reminder to prioritise physical and mental health. Encouraging our teams to get outside, be active, and connect with each other is not only good for morale, it’s good for long-term productivity and culture. Campaigns like this reinforce the idea that wellbeing and work can, and should, go hand in hand.

This sponsorship also reflects how we want Heb Group to be seen within the industry, as a business that delivers high-quality work while also demonstrating leadership in areas like community engagement and social responsibility. The partnerships we choose, the causes we support, and the way we show up outside of commercial contracts all help define our reputation. Supporting Kier’s charity challenge sends a clear message: we care about making a difference, and we’re prepared to act on it.

To everyone who’s planning to take part, thank you. Whether you’re joining a challenge, logging kilometres, making a donation, or simply encouraging your colleagues, your involvement matters. And if you haven’t signed up yet, I encourage you to get involved. Let’s move through May with purpose, as a united team, and show what’s possible when construction professionals come together for something truly meaningful.
