Paul Roberts Takes On Two Epic Swims for Suicide Prevention Charity
There are some things people do that make you stop in your tracks, and Paul Roberts is about to do two of them. Our Electrical Site Manager is preparing for not one, but two long-distance open water swims this summer to raise money for The Martin Gallier Project, a charity working on the frontlines of suicide prevention and support in the Northwest.
First up is Chillswim: Coniston 2025, where on 21st June, Paul will swim the full 5.25-mile length of Coniston Water in the Lake District. And if that wasn’t enough, just a few weeks later, he’ll be diving into Ullswater on 12th July for a second swim, this time an even longer 7.5-mile challenge. As Paul joked, “Coniston is just the warm-up!”

It’s all in aid of a cause that means a lot to Paul. The Martin Gallier Project is the only dedicated suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention service in the Northwest, offering essential support to people in crisis and to those who have been bereaved by suicide. They work every day to break the stigma around mental health and to ensure no one feels they have to face their struggles alone.
Paul has set an overall fundraising target of £800, and he’s already making great progress. But more than anything, he wants to get people talking, to shine a light on mental health in the construction industry and show that it’s okay to speak up when times get tough.
Swimming’s one thing, but opening up about your mental health is a different kind of challenge. I hope these swims help start a few more conversations and raise a bit of money for a charity that’s helping people when they need it most.
