Mercia Learning Trust includes 7 schools across South Yorkshire - welcoming over 5,500 pupils through their doors each day.
We’ve been working with Woodlands Primary School, part of the Mercia Learning Trust to deliver high standards of hygiene that reflect the school’s warm and welcoming ethos, delivering a detailed cleaning plan based on the specific requirements of the school.
Our approach
Cleanliness within education is about more than just keeping things tidy, it’s about creating the right conditions for children to learn, grow and be safe, all of which ties into the key Ofsted criteria around the behaviour and safety of pupils at the school.
Our approach to Woodlands Primary School covers a range of key areas, including:
- High touch point areas are highlighted as a focus, including desks, door handles, taps and handrails
- Restroom hygiene with daily checks and restocks
- Canteen and food areas, avoiding contamination
- Staff areas are treated with equal importance
- School holiday deep cleans allow us to avoid disruption without compromise

Providing a reliable, flexible and safe solution
Viewed as an extension of the trust’s staff - all our cleaning staff hold enhanced DBS checks and are familiar with the policies of Mercia Learning Trust.
Staffing in schools can be challenging, especially during periods of illness or unexpected absence, but the demands of cleaning and safety don’t falter - so beyond our core team, we have additional support ready to step in if needed, to provide reliability and consistency.

The schools are looking amazing following summer deep cleans. The management of cleaning staff and cover for absence were a major issue for our trust beforehand, this is now no longer something we need to consider. All staff have enhanced DBS checks in line with the trust policies and procedures. Mercia Learning Trust have developed an excellent working relationship with Heb Cleaning & Hygiene that we will look to build on.

Meet Kasia, Woodlands Primary School, Contract Manager
Kasia Owczarzak has been with Heb Group for over three years, bringing experience and commitment to her role as Contract Manager for Woodlands Primary School.
She oversees our Cleaning & Hygiene services across the site, which includes 20 classrooms covering nursery, reception, and Year 1 through to Year 6, as well as Specialist Resource Provision facilities. Each area requires a consistent and tailored cleaning approach to ensure pupils and staff benefit from a safe and hygienic environment.
Working closely with the school, Kasia manages cleaning across shared and high-use spaces such as the sports hall, dining room, therapy rooms, and staff rooms. She adapts schedules to minimise disruption to lessons and activities, while maintaining the highest standards. Her proactive management and strong working relationships with staff ensure Woodlands Primary School can always rely on a clean, welcoming environment that supports learning and wellbeing.
